Creativity Labs

May 2012, Caltagirone and Bagheria, Sicily


Laboratories main aim is to encourage young talents to show up and express themselves, in fact are addressed to young people between 18 and 30 years. Lab Department implemented this part of component 4 choosing one of the most creative Sicilian economic sector that is art Ceramics. Using the methodology of “learning by doing”, 10 young people spent a period of 30 hours in a ceramics handcraft  manufacturer company, acquiring basic and transversal competencies in  developing  a creative graphic project; in the real and manual creation of the ceramics object; in the use of art decorative techniques. To realize Labs  have been issued:

  • a call for proposal to select 3 handcraft manufacturer companies where Labs will took place;
  • a call for application to select 10 young people that must be unemployed and job seekers registered on the lists of availability. Diffusion and promotion of this call were implemented through the peripheral administrative offices situated in those Sicilian provinces where Art Ceramics economic sector has higher relevance called “Centri Per l’Impiego”  - Employment Offices

Doing a brief descriptive analysis of realized Labs taking account its quantitative elements it has to say that they are organized inside the headquarters of the at the end only 2 selected companies that are:

1. Floridia Salvatore “Ceramiche e Terrecotte Artistiche” - Caltagirone

2.Scianna Antonio e Maurizio – Bagheria

 

Participantsts medium age is 23; equally distributed in gender, participants attended Creativity Labs for a total of  30 hours 6 par each day during the first and second week of May c.y.

Through a “learning by doing “ methodology, participants involved supported by engaged by companies ad hoc teachers completely attended the 3 scheduled modules, specifically:

1. developing  a creative graphic project

Use of principal tools to plan the manufacturing of a ceramics object with respect to traditional historical artistic graphic rules of regional territory.

To this activity is dedicated not less than 25% of total time.

2. real and manual creation of the ceramics object

Acquire skills about main techniques of realizing and hand making a ceramics object using the traditional artistic equipments.

To this activity is dedicated not less than 45% of total time.

3. use of art decorative techniques

Decorate objects using proper tools of historical regional tradition.


This last phase lasts not less than 30% of total time dedicated to Creativity Labs and as practical results of participation they created a total amount of Art Ceramics characteristic objects of 33 pieces representing candlesticks, grated cheese baskets, baskets, bowls, pitchers, amphora, jars, sugar bowls, fonts, panels, tiles.
