“Tourism and Culture” in debate on the University of Algarve

 

 


On 16th of March, was held in the University of Algarve the regional capitalization seminar “‘Tourism and Cultural and Creative Industries in the Algarve’, in the scope of the KnowInG Project.

Maria Cabral, representative of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Algarve, and that integrates the Project Knowing team, opened the event.

Eurídice Cristo, Division of Entrepreneurship and Technology Transfer (CRIA), UAlg, did a brief presentation about the KnowInG Project goals and activities.  

In the first part of the seminar the communications was to understand the action strategies of the regional bodies as Turismo do Algarve (Algarve Tourism),  Direção Regional de Cultura do Algarve (Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve) and the University of Algarve. In general the opinions it was that tourism, as the main economic regional sector, needs to be diversified in terms of products (beyond sun, beach and golf) and that is important betting on the regional culture, heritage, traditions, gastronomy, nature, etc., and in the education on these sectors.     

In the second part, was presented three regional projects as good practices of entrepreneurship for the regional development and resulting of the partnership of the various local agents and supports.

In the debate session one of the participants commented that "these projects bring some hope to the Algarve".

In the end of the seminar was announced, by Marisa Madeira, the contest «Your creativity is our future» for the creation of an argument for a videogame, an activity inserted on the KnowInG Project. The competition aims to engage the community in the region and also at promoting the Algarve as a tourist destination and cultural excellence, nationally and internationally.

The participants of the seminar responded to the questionnaire of satisfaction and considered that was 'very useful', giving full marks to the relevance of the theme and the importance of the subjects covered.
